Paducah, KY – A former McCracken County judge-executive is encountering trouble in a new county position. McCracken County Attorney Michael Murphy took Gary Hovecamp's job appointment approval off the fiscal court agenda last night. Murphy says commissioners indicated they would not approve the hire. Murphy hired Hovecamp July 1 to serve in the child support office. Hovecamp may stay on in his position as a county attorney appointee, though Murphy says he may not receive health and retirement benefits. Murphy says he has known Hovecamp for 25 years and doesn't understand commissioners' opposition. He plans to speak to fiscal court members outside the public meeting setting. Commissioners were not reachable for comment.
