Murray, KY – Rebates for energy efficient appliances will once again be available in Kentucky. 1.7 million of the 4 million stimulus dollars given to Kentucky for appliance rebates have not been claimed. Thousands of Kentuckians applied for rebates, saying they planned to purchase energy efficient appliances, but either never bought them or missed a deadline to claim the money. Energy and Environment Cabinet secretary Len Peters says Kentucky's situation is not unique.
"That's been the history across most of the states that somewhere between 35-40 percent on the first round goes unused."
The program was first announced in April. The money will now be given out on a first-come-first-served basis. Peters expects all of the rebates to be awarded in two to three months.
