Battery Manufacturing Research and Development Center

By Rebecca Feldhaus/KPR

Murray, KY – Governor Steve Beshear is announcing the hiring of Dr. Ralph Brodd to head the Kentucky-Argonne National Battery Manufacturing Research and Development Center in Lexington. Beshear says Brodd, a 40-year battery industry veteran who holds five patents, is the right man for the job.

"His career has crisscrossed industry and government and has involved the research, development, commercialization and marketing of battery and fuel cells technologies."

Beshear says Brodd will help Kentucky achieve its goals of becoming a leader in alternative energy and the epicenter of the next generation of automobile manufacturing. The governor announced formation of the battery research center in April 2009, following an economic development trip to Japan.
