Joppa, IL – A man is dead after a shootout yesterday with Illinois law enforcement. The Massac County Sheriff's Department and the Illinois State Police responded to a report of shots fired at a Joppa police officer's patrol car. The man barricaded himself into a trailer on Rudy Street. Police say they attempted to negotiate a peaceful surrender, but the man continued shooting at officers prompting an exchange of gunfire. No officers were injured. A bomb squad robot later entered the premises and discovered the man was dead. The Paducah Sun reports he has yet to be identified.
