AG Warns of Sweepstakes, Lottery Scams

By AP

Frankfort, KY – Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway says scams involving sweepstakes and lotteries are increasing in Kentucky. Conway says his Office of Consumer Protection received several calls from people who have either been notified they won a prize or who have wired money and are now victims of a scam. He says one victim reported losing nearly $10,000 to what appeared to be a sweepstakes company.

Conway says Kentucky residents should disregard calls or notices from sweepstakes or lottery companies asking for upfront money. He says it is very difficult to recover the funds wired out of the state.
