Springville, Tenn. – An apparent property deed scam in Tennessee has cropped up in Henry County. Deeds registrar Alice Webb says a Springville resident brought her a notice he received in the mail from a company identifying itself as "Deed Retrieval Services." The letter indicated a state agency recommends all homeowners obtain copies of their current deeds. The letter asks for $87, with an additional $35 charge after a certain date. Webb says it is a scam. She says, if property owners receive such notices, to bring them to her office. Deed copies are available at the registrar's office for less than $1.
