Update: Illinois Shootout

By Chris Taylor

Joppa, IL – The details of how a Joppa resident died during a police standoff Sunday awaits autopsy results. Whether 58-year-old Monte Kingsley died of a self-inflicted or police gunshot is yet to be determined. Massac County Coroner Jason McManus will be conducting the autopsy. The standoff originated after Kingsley opened fire on a police vehicle and barricaded himself into a trailer on Rudy Street. Police say they attempted to negotiate a peaceful surrender, but Kingsley continued shooting at officers prompting an exchange of gunfire. The Paducah Sun reports Kingsley may have had a history of mental health issues.
