Joppa, IL – Massac County law enforcement officials say the Joppa resident who died during an exchange of gunfire over the weekend, did so by his own hand. A preliminary autopsy report finds 58-year-old Monte Kingsley died of a self-inflicted gunshot among other wounds received during the exchange. Kingsley's standoff with police began after he opened fire on an officer's vehicle and barricaded himself into a trailer on Rudy Street. Kingsley continued shooting at officers prompting an exchange of gunfire. The Paducah Sun reports Kingsley may have had a history of mental health issues.
