Nashville, TN – Tennessee state education leaders are holding a campaign to raise public awareness about higher academic standards in the classroom. Governor Phil Bredesen, Education Commissioner Tim Webb and former U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist are launching the project this week at a series of regional news conferences.
The goal is to educate parents about this fall's Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program scores, which will be the first to reflect the state's higher standards. This year's scores are expected to show a decrease in student proficiency in key subjects like reading and mathematics because of more rigorous coursework.
