Commissioners Suggest Tree Voucher Use

By Chris Taylor

Paducah, KY – Paducah city commissioners are considering what to do with about 300 unused tree vouchers from a January 2009 ice storm recovery project. The program is set to end next summer. Mayor Pro-tem Gayle Kaler and Commissioner Gerald Watkins suggest using the unclaimed vouchers to plant trees at Murray State's Barkley Woods property off I-24. Commissioner Carol Gault recommends some trees should be planted beside the Barkley Regional Airport to improve impressions of those flying into Paducah for the first time. Planning Director Steve Ervin suggests planting the trees at local schools or parks or allowing businesses to apply for the vouchers. Ervin is expected to develop a plan.
