Lake City, KY – Work begins this week to double the size of the Kentucky Lock near Lake City. The US Army Corps of Engineers may begin explosive blasting this week to break up about 145,000 cubic yards of limestone. There will be two blasts a day and the Corps will restrict road and waterway traffic within 1,500 feet from the lock for 10 minutes prior to detonation. The blasting is not expected to launch airborne fragments. The Paducah Sun reports the Corps expects to continue using explosives until the beginning of December.
