Homebuilders See Decline in Sales

By Dan Modlin / Angela Hatton

Owensboro, KY – Home construction dropped last month to its lowest level since last October. Paul Martin is a homebuilder from Owensboro who is area vice president of the Home Builder's Association of Western Kentucky. He believes the job market will have to get better for the home building industry to improve.

People don't have jobs, so therefore they can't afford to buy a home. And so they have less confidence in their abilities to go out and purchase a new home or a used home.

Martin says many homebuilders have seen a decline in demand since an $8,000 tax credit for first time homebuyers expired in April.
