Louisville, KY – As part of a new strategy to help save the state money, the Kentucky Department of Parks has drawn up a proposal that would let private vendors operate the state owned golf courses. Spokesperson Gil Lawson says a "request for information" has been issued that will allow interested parties to provide details about the operation and leasing of 18 state park courses.
"Right now rounds of golf are subsidized by taxpayers, we are losing money at this and we can no longer afford to do that. As a result of the budget this year we have to save $6 million this year."
Interested vendors have until August 18 to respond to the request. Western Kentucky is home to seven state park golf courses.
