TVA fuel Cost Raises Bills Sixth Straight Month

By AP

Knoxville, TN – Tennessee Valley Authority customers paying a sixth straight month of higher fuel cost adjustments in August will see further increases ranging between $1 and $2 on typical residential bills. Adding the 1.5% fuel cost in August boosts the total increases since March 1 to more than 20%.

A TVA statement says the August increase is primarily due to substantially higher than expected fuel costs for June caused by much higher than normal temperatures. TVA's statement says about half of its power supply comes from coal, oil and natural gas and when prices of these fuels increase, TVA's costs increase.
