Western Kentucky – Compared to this time last year, 107 Kentucky counties report lower unemployment rates. Calloway County has the third lowest jobless rate in the commonwealth at eight percent, down a tenth of a point from May. Ballard and McCracken counties also rank in the top 10 for the fewest people out of work. Unemployment rates in the overall Purchase and Pennyrile regions dropped from May to June, and both dropped more than a percentage point from last year. Statewide, the commonwealth's June 2009 jobless rate was 11.1 percent, as compared to the current 10.1 percent.
