Nashville, TN – A recent poll shows most Tennesseans strongly support high academic standards in public schools even if the standards lead to lower test scores in the short term. The State Collaborative on Reforming Education commissioned the telephone poll of 600 likely Tennessee voters. The non-profit, non-partisan organization works with state and local governments to on education policy decisions. According to the poll, about 69% of those surveyed strongly support the State Board of Education's decision to raise standards in subjects like reading and mathematics.
