Eddyville, KY – Environmental crews are working to clean up a section of I-24 in Lyon County after a crash this morning. Two semi-trucks, one hauling a bleach product, and another hauling beer, crashed, causing a traffic block. Transportation Department Spokesman Keith Todd says one eastbound lane is open, while officials have diverted traffic on the westbound lane via Exit 45. Todd expects the traffic restrictions to continue into the afternoon. Motorists should use caution when travelling this section of the interstate. Kentucky State Police officers and the Lyon County Sheriff's Department are on the scene assisting with cleanup. The status of the vehicle drivers is unknown.
UPDATE, 4:20 CST: Westbound lanes on I-24 south of Eddyville remain restricted after a semi-truck crash this morning. Transportation Department Spokesman Keith Todd says westbound lanes will be open again after six this evening. Two semi-trucks, one hauling a bleach product, and another hauling beer, crashed near Exit 45. Todd says traffic was restricted most of the day while environmental crews cleaned up the site. The Lyon County Sheriff's Department confirms one semi-truck driver was airlifted to Vanderbilt Medical Center for treatment. The status of the other driver is unknown.
