Frankfort, KY – Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear has ordered an immediate review on how the state handles reports of abuse and neglect of residents in Kentucky's nursing homes. The review by the Cabinet for Health and Family Services comes after an investigation by the Lexington Herald-Leader. The analysis found only seven of 107 cases of nursing home deaths or abuse over a three-year period were prosecuted as crimes. Governor Beshear wants a review into how effectively the state coordinates efforts with local prosecutors and police. Illinois Governor Pat Quinn yesterday signed similar legislation promoting patient safety.
