Calloway County Health Center might go independent

By Rebecca Feldhaus

Murray, KY – The Calloway County Health Center board of directors voted unanimously last night to take steps toward operating independently. The local center must continue adhering to state guidelines and will still receive funding but will no longer function through the Purchase District Health Department. Judge Executive Larry Elkins cited financial reasons for the decision and says other than affiliation, not much will change.

"Most or all of our local staff till remain in the district. We don't expect that those people using the health department will ever know the difference."

The Graves County Health Department went independent last year. Calloway County Fiscal court meets August 17th at 5pm to decide on the motion. If it is approved, it will go into effect by July 1 of next year.
