Fort Campbell, KY – Drawing on hard-won experience gained during flood relief operations in Clarksville, Tennessee, soldiers from Fort Campbell's 1st Brigade Combat Team of the 101st Airborne Division, assisted Afghan civilians when flash flooding hit Adah Village in eastern Afghanistan. Soldiers working with local police rescued more than 200 civilians in all.
While returning from a routine patrol July 28th, Fort Campbell soldiers stopped at a traffic jam where locals watched rising waters strand loved ones in their homes. The soldiers began rescue operations until Afghan National Army troops arrived to evacuate civilians from buildings and rooftops. 101st Airborne troops then moved into a support role, assisting in various ways ranging from supplying straps for tow trucks to rendering medical aid.
