By Angela Hatton

Frankfort, KY – Western Kentucky coal counties will receive a portion of proceeds from mine permits and acreage fees. Counties in western Kentucky will get nearly $50,000 of a $500,000 allotment. Muhlenberg County comes out on top with over $26,000 alone. The state Department of Natural Resources returns a portion of all permit fees it collects to fiscal courts in coal-producing counties.
