Fort Campbell, KY – A Fort Campbell soldier from Tennessee has been killed in a bomb blast in Afghanistan. The Pentagon says Specialist Michael L. Stansbery of Mount Juliet died Friday when his patrol came upon an improvised explosive device in Kandahar Province.
The 21-year-old was assigned to the 320th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team. Stansbery joined the Army in 2007 and arrived at Fort Campbell in April.
He is survived by his parents, Michael and Tammy Stansbery, also of Mount Juliet. A memorial ceremony will be held in Afghanistan.
