Nashville, TN – Tennessee education officials are approving vendors for portions of federal "Race to the Top" funds, but one company has had trouble with state contracts in the past. The Tennessean reports West Virginia-based Edvantia Incorporated was among 81 businesses approved. However, a 2004 state audit found the nonprofit fraudulently billed the state $245,000 by keeping two sets of books and hiding fees. The company self-reported the error and agreed to repay the state education department. Education spokesperson Amanda Maynord Anderson says previous issues have been rectified and Edvantia has been approved for contracts on a school-by-school basis.
