Mayfield, KY – Farmers in the Purchase Area counties are experiencing crop loss from high heat and dry conditions. Graves County Agriculture Agent Kenny Perry says corn is prematurely aging, with around a quarter lost to weather damage. Soybeans pods are at the growth stage, but a lack of moisture has them stunted. Perry says soybean yields will be heavily damaged without significant rain in the next two weeks. Tobacco hasn't suffered as much. Perry says it tends to do well in hot weather. According to Perry, one to two inches of steady rain could save farmers millions of dollars this year. A chance of showers is forecast into tonight.
