Frankfort, KY – Former Senate Majority Leader David Karem is the board's unanimous choice to succeed Joe Brothers as board chairman. Dorie Combs and C.B. Akins are vice-chairs. Karem, a key architect of the Kentucky Education Reform Act, looks forward to the challenges ahead.
"Making sure that we're carrying out all of the best practices act for the kids in the state of Kentucky, because it boils down to - if we're not moving our state forward with our students, we're not moving our state forward."
The board is also getting to know five new members recently appointed by Gov. Steve Beshear. Beshear also reappointed two other members, so the 11 voting members of the board are now all Beshear appointees.
