Paducah, KY – Authorities say 29-year-old Michael Cozart, whose body was recovered from the Ohio River after a wreck July 7th apparently died from wreck injuries and not the fall into the river.
McCracken County Coroner Dan Sims says further examination led investigators to revise their initial findings. They originally believed Cozart fell over the I- 24 bridge's railing when he jumped out of the way of a vehicle that rear-ended the truck he had been riding in.
Cozart had apparently gotten out of the truck to retrieve a ladder that had fallen onto the bridge's right eastbound lane. The wreck occurred before he could get back in.
Investigators now believe the side of the truck hit Cozart and threw him over the bridge. The Paducah Sun reports Sims ruled he died from multiple blunt force trauma.
