Nashville, TN – Businessman Mike McWherter, unopposed in Thursday's Democratic primary for Tennessee governor, says he's pleased to finally have one opponent to concentrate on. Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam beat out four other candidates for the Republican nomination. McWherter, the son of former Governor Ned McWherter, says he's looking forward to talking about his platform and hearing about Haslam's.
Current Democratic Governor Phil Bredesen can't run again because of term limits.
In other Tennessee election news, farmer and gospel singer Stephen Fincher won the Republican nomination to replace U-S Representative John Tanner. He'll square off against the Democratic nominee, State Senator Roy Herron.
And Montgomery County Mayor Carolyn Bowers has won a second term. Bowers defeated opponent Curt Mize with 67% of the vote.
