Nortonville, Ky. – The small Hopkins County city of Nortonville has a budget, though late and not without difficulty. Wednesday evening, the city council approved the budget during a special session. It goes into effect immediately. The council experienced delays because most of the city's financial records were missing when Barry Merrill assumed the mayor's desk mid-April. The council appointed Merrill, who'd been a council member, following resignations by the former mayor and two city clerks. Current city clerk C.T. Sturt and auditor John Jones assembled the nearly $1-million-dollar budget based on 2009 fiscal year expenses.
