Nashville, TN – A couple of years from now, scholars of Tennessee history and the curious will be able to go online and read newspaper accounts written at the time events occurred. Tennessee will join Kentucky and 14 other states in putting archival pages from dozens of newspapers online.
State librarian and archivist Chuck Sherrill says the really interesting details are in the local columns and ads. Sherrill says the project should benefit researchers from elementary school onward as well as families doing genealogical research. About 100,000 pages from papers published between 1836 and 1922 will be available online in about two years.
