WK&T Nabs Stimulus Funds for Expansion

By Chris Taylor

Mayfield, KY – Mayfield-based West Kentucky and Tennessee Telecommunications Cooperative plans to use federal funding to expand broadband access in western Kentucky and northwestern Tennessee. WK&T will use $123 million in federal stimulus funds to lay fiber optic cable to homes and businesses spanning nine counties across the two states. The broadband internet connection will host speeds of up to 20mbs rivaling that of urban networks. In a news release, the company projects it will create about 160 construction jobs over the next three years.
