Cooling Centers Help Beat the Heat

By Angela Hatton

Cadiz, KY – With a heat advisory extending through Friday this week, some counties have opened cooling centers to help residents without air conditioning. Trigg County offers a cooling center all week at the John L. Street Library until 6 PM with free bottled water and ice. The First United Methodist Church in Madisonville was open as a cooling center today. Red Cross Emergency Services Director Brenda Barker says no one came in, and officials aren't likely to open the church tomorrow. McCracken County Emergency Manager Paul Carter says he sent out an announcement Monday encouraging people to seek out public air conditioned locations. But he says the county has not needed to open a cooling center yet.
