Hopkinsville, KY – Problems with new school bus routes are causing a rough start to Christian County's school year. Spokesperson Regan Honeycutt says the main problem was that the bus roster sheets usually prepared by the school transportation department were not ready for the first day. This caused widespread confusion among the drivers and students. Honeycutt says some children got to school as late at 9 AM and arrived home in the early evening.
"We don't want any children to be confused or feel uncomfortable because of a transportation problem, and I think it's fair to say that's the most, uh, unfortunate ramification of the situation is that our students were impacted, and for that we truly are sorry and we certainly take full responsibility."
Honeycutt says the rosters were completed, and school officials continue to work to improve communication in their transportation department. She says bus routes should be significantly improved by the beginning of next week. Sixty-five-hundred of the district's nine thousand students ride a bus to school.
