Lexington, Ky. – It's becoming more likely that a domestic violence measure will kick into action across the Commonwealth. Brenna Angel reports on new funding for Amanda's Law.
Named for Lexington murder victim Amanda Ross, Amanda's Law allows judges to place GPS monitoring devices on domestic violence offenders. Victims would be able to see their offender's whereabouts, and avoid them. The legislation sailed through the Kentucky General Assembly, but judicial officials quickly realized there was no money to enforce it. Thursday morning Congressman Ben Chandler announced a solution to that problem: $875,000 in federal funds. If passed, the appropriation would be administered out of Commonwealth Attorney Ray Larson's office in Lexington.
