Nashville, TN – Tennessee state lawmakers say they will hold hearings on the selection of a new chancellor for the Tennessee Board of Regents. Deputy Governor John Morgan stepped down from his position as Governor Phil Bredesen's top aide to take the chancellor's position last week. The Tennessean reports following complaints from Republican lawmakers, the Senate Education Committee will call on TBR officials to explain the circumstances around Morgan's appointment. Republican senators tell the newspaper they also want to know why the Regents lowered educational requirements for the position, and increased the salary before making the hire.
