Paducah, KY – A new Paducah municipal order will appropriate $16,000 to help McCracken County fund pauper burials for the current fiscal year. The city commission passed the order at their meeting last night. According to state law, McCracken County is responsible for the $1,000 indigent burial costs, but the city of Paducah has traditionally split the expense. A January 2010 accounting error raised the city's share to $1,000 before the mistake was corrected. City Commissioner Gerald Watkins researched the per burial expense and determined it is extremely reasonable.
