Murray, KY – Calloway and Trigg County officials view proposed state government furloughs as an inconvenience to their residents. The proposed shut downs would primarily effect automobile licensing and renewals at clerks' offices. Most notable of the days affected by the six-day furlough include the Fridays before Labor Day, Veterans Day, and Memorial Day. Calloway County Clerk Ray Coursey says those three days can be high volume days for automobile renewals. Trigg County Clerk Wanda Thomas says she has some customers driving in from as far as Clarksville and Nashville who may have to make two trips if they are not informed. Governor Beshear has ordered the furloughs in an attempt to trim 131 million dollars from the state budget. A lawsuit filed by six state employees aims to halt the furloughs, but the suit remains under judicial review.
