Metropolis, IL – Negotiation leaders for the United Steel Workers and Honeywell corporation are seeking a date for resumed bargaining. The company proposed either August 30 or September 20 to begin talks again, but neither date worked for USW. Honeywell spokesman Peter Dalpe says company officials sent a message this morning, requesting USW select alternative dates. The third round of negotiations ended August 10 without any progress. Workers have been locked out of the Metropolis nuclear fuel plant since the end of June. Salaried and temporary workers are running the plant, though they have not been able to produce the end product, uranium hexafluoride or UF-6. Dalpe says they are currently undergoing training, and may resume UF-6 production soon.
