Benton, KY – Law enforcement officers say a growing number of children have been found roaming the streets of Marshall County. Residents have located five children wandering around local highways and busy streets in as many weeks.The most recent report came last night. This has prompted Marshall County Sheriff Kevin Byars to remind parents there will be consequences if they don't keep a watchful eye.
"We're charging the parents with Wanton Endangerment in the first degree, which is a class D felony," he said. "And of course that will have to be sorted out through the courts on how that actually plays out."
Byars says he plans to work with social services regarding the uptick. He says he is also going to work to make an example of these cases to prevent this issue from coming up again.
