Frankfort, KY – A family advocacy group is intervening in a court case testing the legality of Instant Racing at Kentucky horse tracks. Kentucky Public Radio's Tony McVeigh is keeping track of the legal wrangling.
Last month, the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission unanimously approved regulations to allow Instant Racing at horse tracks, but also sought a legal ruling in the matter. Now, the Family Foundation of Kentucky is intervening in the court case.
"We think that the court has a case before it where only one side's being represented on a regulation that hasn't even been approved and the public hasn't had a chance to publicly comment on."
That's Martin Cothran of the Family Foundation. A hearing on the intervention request is set for early September. A racing commission hearing on the new regulations will be held in late September. Instant racing allows electronic wagering on previously run horse races.
