Louisville, KY – A country ham from Broadbent's B and B Foods in Kuttawa has fetched a record price at the The Kentucky State Fair. The company's grand champion ham was sold at a charity auction. Republic Bank and Dr. Mark Lynn and Associates agreed to combine their top bids of $800,000 each for the 16-pound ham. Republic Bank founder Bernard Trager says the proceeds from his bid will benefit several charities.
"We usually focus on higher education, health care and other charities in and
around the community. What my son says is what we make here stays here."
Co-bidder Lynn says his part may go to the University of Louisville and community services in eastern Kentucky. The auction was held this morning following the annual Kentucky Farm Bureau ham breakfast at the state fair.
