Clarksville, TN – Wednesday is the deadline for Tennessee residents and business owners whose property was significantly affected by the May flooding to file for temporary tax relief. Owners of property destroyed or substantially damaged by flood waters who were not able to return to it in a month are eligible to have their property value lowered. The lower property tax rate would apply only for June through August.
Montgomery County Property Assessor Betty Burchett tells the Clarksville Leaf-Chronicle any home or business unusable by the owner past September 1st will automatically be eligible for a tax break from December 31st to May 1st under existing state law.
