Henderson Judge-Executive Dies

By Lisa Autry

Henderson, KY – Henderson County's long-time leader has passed away at the age of 58. Judge-executive Sandy Watkins died unexpectedly over the weekend while attending a meeting in San Diego. He had served Henderson County since 1994. Magistrate Bruce Todd remembers Watkins as a good businessman who brought budget surpluses and a new jail to Henderson County.

"He loved his job and he loved his people that he served. He had a compassion for industry, y'know to get more industry in the, the area."

The Henderson fiscal court will meet in special session tomorrow to select a temporary replacement until Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear names an interim judge-executive. The county Democratic Party will name a nominee to run in the November election against republican Virgil Carter.
