Lexington, KY – Kentucky's senior senator says President Barack Obama's troop withdrawal policy in Iraq has been appropriate. Senator Minority Leader Mitch McConnell says the Obama administration has kept in step with the Bush administration on this issue.
"He basically adopted the guidelines and agreement that were entered into by the previous administration and he's carrying out and I commend him for it."
President Obama gives a nationwide address tonight on the end of combat operations in Iraq. McConnell compares the current troop surge in Afghanistan with a similar one three years ago in Iraq. He says it's too soon to say when a majority of those US troops will return home. McConnell spoke at a Commerce Lexington luncheon.
