Murray, KY – Two Kentucky universities are teaming up to produce more physicians in the Commonwealth. University of Kentucky College of Medicine named Murray State University as the second location to offer the Rural Physician Leadership Program.
Murray State will host 10 students per year in their third and fourth years of clinical study. Students will take classes at Murray-Calloway County Hospital. UK College of Medicine Interim Dean Dr. Emery Wilson explains the set-up.
"The students will be based in Murray, but they will have clinical rotations, or clerkships courses at a number of hospitals in the area, particularly Paducah, Marshall County, perhaps other if they decide to participate with us."
Wilson says the Purchase Area will benefit from the positive economic impact physicians bring to communities. The first students arrive at Murray State's campus in 2014. Students are already taking classes at the first RPLP program in Morehead.
