Action Taken on Behalf of Mayfield Muslims

By Angela Hatton

Mayfield, KY – An Islamic advocacy group plans to meet with Somali Muslims next week in Mayfield. Islamaca International spokesperson Bethany Bin Beyyette says representatives from the American Civil Liberties Union will join them Tuesday at the proposed mosque site. They plan to discuss possible litigation against the city. The Mayfield zoning board denied a permit to open the mosque August 24, because they said the site did not have enough parking. Beyyette says the Somalis feel their rights have been violated. She says if the ACLU chooses not to pursue legal action, Islamaca International will.
