Equestrian Games Cuts Budget, Sponsor Fills Gaps

By AP

Lexington, KY – The budget for the Kentucky-hosted Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games has been cut by half a million dollars after lower than expected ticket sales, but the title sponsor is stepping in to fill the financial gaps. Games CEO Jamie Link tells the Lexington Herald-Leader organizers have trimmed planned visual elements, such as flowers and other decorations, from the $76 million budget. But the event has been aided by nearly $1 million raised in the last couple of weeks by sponsor Alltech, which has been selling memberships to the Alltech Commonwealth Club. The budget was partly based on the sale of an estimated 500,000 tickets for the games which run from September 25 through October 10. So far, 325,000 tickets have been sold.
