Decision limits crime infromation for media

By Rebecca Feldhaus

Hopkinsville, KY – A recent decision from Christian County Circuit Judge Andrew Self allows the Hopkinsville Police Department to censor home addresses and phone numbers of victims from their crime reports. Attorney Robert Ison represented the Kentucky New Era in the civil lawsuit involving the city of Hopkinsville. Ison says the suit arose when the newspapers received truncated crime reports. They filed an open records request and discovered much of the information had been redacted. Ison says his client is worried they won't be able to contact victims to follow up on how police handled their case. The Kentucky New Era has not yet appealed Judge Self's August 25th decision.
