McCracken County's Planned Consolidated High School Already Too Small

By Chris Taylor

Paducah, KY – McCracken County's new consolidated high school is expected to exceed student capacity by the time it opens in 2012. The school is designed to educate 1,600 students.

Bids for constructing the $56 million facility will open near the end of the month. School Board chairman Neil Archer tells the Paducah Sun if a significantly lower bid is accepted, engineers may add a fifth classroom wing to the plans increasing capacity to 2,000 students. Archer points to current middle school enrollment as an indicator the new high school's population will breach capacity.
