Frankfort, KY – State education officials are working to develop what Commissioner Terry Holliday calls a must have' list for consideration by the 2011 General Assembly. He says it will amount to funding priorities for the future. It comes at a time when Holliday and other educators realize that Race to the Top' federal dollars are almost certainly out of reach.
"I don't think there's a lot of faith from governors that the program is fair. I think there were concerns about the wide variability of judges the fact that charter schools cost you so many points so I don't sense there are a lot of congressmen and governors that would support a round three."
Holliday says some programs can move forward without Race to the Top money. He says initiatives to improve college readiness can result in cost savings over time.
