Louisville, KY – The Kentucky Public Service Commission (PSC) will hold a public hearing Wednesday on the proposed sale of Louisville Gas & Electric and Kentucky Utilities to Pennsylvania based PPL Corporation.
PSC Spokesperson Andrew Melnykovich says PPL will have to meet certain criteria in order to buy the utilities, currently owned by E.ON U.S.
"The applicants have to show that they've got the technical, managerial and financial wear with all to operate the utility and provide reasonable service and demonstrate that the proposed transaction is in the public interest. The law says that if the PSC finds that they've met those criteria then the proposed transaction would be approved."
The hearing begins at 10 a.m. at the commission's offices in Frankfort. The seven billion dollar-plus sale of the utilities requires approval by the PSC. The commission has until the end of September to make a decision.
